Friday the 29th of August the European Medieval Festival exhibition Tolkien’s Universe – an echo of medieval times opens. It is a collection of items from the filming of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. The collection is bigger than any other collection in Europe – maybe in the world – and nowhere outside New Zealand where the items are produced can you see that many objects from the film in one place.

The European Medieval Festival 2014

Visit Horsens on August 29 and 30, 2014 to experience the medieval version of FÆNGSLET

The 20th instalment of the annual European Medieval Festival invites you on a wondrous journey more than 500 years back through the ages. Step out of the modern city and straight into the Middle Ages when Horsens opens its gates to a medieval festival like no other in the fantastic setting of the former state prison, FÆNGLSET. The two festival days are packed with bustling life inside the walls and around the grounds as craftsmen, musicians, street performers, knights, and many more descend on Horsens to take part in the traditional medieval market with its hundreds of interesting stalls as well as music, theatre, and tournaments.

The festival may have its share of playful jesters and merry revellers, but it is not only defined by entertainment and fun of the fair. The European Medieval Festival strives to show all sides of medieval life as authentically as possible: art, craft, music, the bustle of the market, and the ways and customs of daily life.

The festival is open to the public on Friday 16:00-23:00 and on Saturday 10:00-23:00.
Entrance to the festival area is FREE of charge.
