Something for all the senses

The sound of the horses from the arena blends with the insistent blare of the bagpipes… Your nostrils catch the scent of bonfires in the square… Your mouth waters as you pass an open kitchen preparing pancakes and lamb stew… You feel the power of the longbow and the oily texture of uncarded wool… Your eye is caught be a beggar in the gutter, the quick hands of the shoemaker, and the antics of the street performers.

Fire eaters and drunkards mingle with the crowds. Traders, pilgrims, whores and indulgence-sellers offer their goods and services to the sound of drums and jew’s harps.

The cream of European medieval musicians, performers and flag throwers come together in Horsens for the biggest medieval fair in Europe. Streets and squares are filled with stalls, working exhibitions, music, theatre and performances.

It’s like you took a trip in a time machine – especially in the magical atmosphere at night, when the streets are lit with torches and candles, and all around is dark.
